The term “dog days of summer” originally comes from the Latin: “dies caniculares” which translates to “days of the dog star.” The dog star representing the constellation of Sirius. When the constellation of Sirius appears in the sky, it’s believed the warmest days of the year are ahead. This has grown into the phrase we all know in the long, heated days of mid year.
